MR.COOLWIN APPROACHED US TO BUILD HIS HOUSE “SECOND INNINGS” IN A 14 CENT PLOT FACING THE VALLEY SIDE IN KURINJI NAGAR, WHICH IS A LITTLE AHEAD OF THE KODAI TOWN IN MADURAI ROAD. HE WANTED THIS HOUSE TO BE A “MODERN HEAVENLY ABODE“ IN THE MIDST OF THE VALLEY.
THE CLIENT HAS DELIBERATELY SELECTED THIS SITE, THOUGH OFF TOWN, BUT A VERY PEACEFUL ONE OVERLOOKING A SMALL SEASONAL STREAM, WHICH JOINS THE MIAN FEEDER STREAM OF THE SILVER CASCADE FALLS BELOW.
WE CONVINCED THE CLIENT, TO BUILD A CONTEXTUAL MODERN HOUSE, IN TERMS OF CLIMATE, APPROPRIATE BUILDING MATERIALS, AND HILL AREA ARCHITECTURE, SUITNG HIS REQUIREMENTS.

SALIENT FEATURES :
-TO SUIT THE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS AND THE HILL AREA ARCHITECTURE, THE ENTIRE HOUSE IS BUILT WITH COARSE RANDOM RUBBLE MASONRY, ENGULFING AN RCC FRAME PERTAINING TO SOIL CONDITIONS OF THE SITE.
-THE FOOTPRINT WAS MADE AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE, GIVING THE KEY ACTIVITIES THE BEST VIEWS OF THE VALLEY AROUND, THE STREAM BELOW AND THE ABUTTING GARDEN LANDSCAPE.
-THE FUNCTIONAL DISPOSITION IS DONE AS BELOW:
-A COMBINATION OF SLOPE ROOF WITH TRADITIONAL MANGALORE TILE IS DONE AT APPROPRIATE LEVELS TO BLEND WITH THE COARSE RANDOM RUBBLE MASONRY.
-2 TO 3 FEET BRICK WALLS WERE BUILT AT SELECTED AREAS IN THE RR WALLS TO RUN THE ELECTRICAL CONDUITS AND TO PLACE SWITCH BOARDS. THESE BRICK NICHES WERE PLASTERED OUTSIDE AND CLAD WITH PINE WOOD IN THE INTERIORS.
-WOODEN FALSE CEILING HAD BEEN PROVIDED.
-ANTIQUE FINISH ROUGH GRANITE FLOORING IS DONE IN THE DINING AND KITCHEN AREA.
-HARD WOOD PLANK FLOORING IS LAID IN ALL BEDROOMS AND OTHER PRIVATE AREAS.
